Bio: Owen Xubuzane

Owen Xubuzane is a Cape Town-based storyteller, videographer, and community advocate. He studied Religion and Theology and Psychology at the UWC, Citizen Journalism at Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking, and Impact Facilitating at the University of Cape Town.

He has worked with various film and media companies across Johannesburg, KwaZulu‑Natal, and Cape Town, from production to post‑production. Owen currently works in post‑production editing and as a facilitator for Sunshine Cinema, while leading IYFM (soon to be Hout Bay Radio), a platform that will amplify community voices 

I am a versatile professional with a background in videography, photography, and information technology, combining creative storytelling with strong technical skills. Over the years, I have designed and managed websites for multiple businesses, using Google Business tools and Google Analytics to monitor performance and engagement. I am highly proficient in Excel and Google Workspace, with a proven ability to capture, clean, and organize data accurately.

I bring strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, often leveraging AI tools to streamline workflows and overcome technical challenges. Currently, I work remotely creating videos for well-known artists using AI, which has strengthened my adaptability and digital fluency. My passion for technology began early, building my first computer before the age of 15, and continues today in my commitment to using data and digital tools to support social impact and youth development.

I am a multidisciplinary creator and mentor dedicated to building platforms and stories that empower communities and amplify overlooked voices. My work spans documentary filmmaking, live broadcasting, photography, township tours, event planning, facilitation, and film screening, all rooted in a commitment to clarity, dignity, and accessibility.

With three years of production experience at Supersport Schools Live Stream, covering roles from camera operation to vision mixing, I bring technical expertise alongside a strong sense of social responsibility. Whether designing radio stations, documenting township resilience, or producing community-focused events and media, I ensure every project is ethical, scalable, and community-first.

I mentor emerging talent to help them present and protect their work, fostering legacy and sustainability. My tools are diverse code, cameras, and compassion, but my purpose is singular: to make systems, stories, and opportunities visible and lasting.
